This serigraph is a saturated grid comprised of 0.25" squares. This artist truly is a color master. Tony Bechara developed his signature technique of using dozens of differently colored squares, relatively randomly placed throughout the piece. This is an early iteration of his grid art, which he began perfecting in 1970. Hyperallergic has called his work "a meticulous approach to the phenomenology of color". Gorgeous paper, it is likely handmade.
Born in 1942 in Puerto Rico, artist Tony Bechara emerged into the New York art scene in the early 1970's. Now in his 80's, in his early years he was part of well-known op art practitioners, and a pioneer in the field who has an over 40-year career.
