Super rare, one-of-a-kind small box handmade by Heidi Schoop, who emigrated to USA in 1933 from Germany. In 1940 she started Schoop Art Creations, where she made pottery in North Hollywood, California. She stopped producing pottery through this studio in 1955 when she started designing for others. This vase is signed on the bottom by the artist.
It's a very 1940's - 1950's piece. The "oriental" influence was alive and well in Hollywood and American culture. For example, TCL (Grauman's) Chinese Theatre that opened on Hollywood Boulevard in 1927.
Overall this is a really interesting piece of California and Hollywood history/culture. It's a roomy box that can fit all your small supplies, or catch the light beautifully from a nearby window.
Clearly it's gilded paint, super reflective. No chips, scrapes or any signs of wear. This has been treated with prisine care throghout it's long life - the bottom has a sticker from the former owner, keeping track of family history. I couldn't take it off! But I'm happy to do that for the new owner, just shoot me a message.
